Dr. Daniel Abaye is a Senior Lecturer (Chemistry) at Department of Basic Sciences, School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences of University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS). He is the Head of Department of Basic Sciences. Dr. Abaye is a former Dean of Students.
Education Dr. Abaye is a graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (then University of Science and Technology, Kumasi), and University of Nottingham, UK (MSc, PhD). His areas of expertise and interests are Bio-Analytical Chemistry, Mass spectrometry, Chromatography, Metabolomics, Data Science.
Work Experience Prior to his appointment at UHAS, he held research positions at Rothamsted Research, Harpenden; St George’s Hospital Medical School, University of London; and at Universities of Glasgow and Greenwich at Medway. He also has industrial experience as an analytical chemist at Invista.
Science/Research output The thrust of Dr. Abaye’s research in academia and industry has been in bio-analytics and analytical chemistry: the applications of chromatography and mass spectrometry in metabolite analysis from matrices including blood, saliva, urine, water, soil and plant biota; methods development in chromatography and mass spectrometry; stable isotope tracer methodology and applications; data analysis. These skills and technologies can address some pertinent questions in health, nutrition and pharmaceutical sciences. He interests also includes; identification and characterisation of small organic molecules, medicinal chemistry and green chemistry.
He is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC), British Mass Spectrometry Society (BMSS) and Pan-African Chemistry Network (PACN). He is also involved in editorial and reviewer work for Asian Journal of Chemical Sciences and Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis.
