Dr. Clement OkrakuTettey is a Lecturer at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences. He is a Biochemist and a Physiologist by training.
EDUCATION
He had his BSc. and MPhil in Biochemistry, from the University of Ghana, and later pursued his PhD in Korean Medicine at Dongguk University, Gyeongju, South Korea.
WORK EXPERIENCE
He worked as a research scientist at the Center for Scientific Research into Plants Medicine at MampongAkuapem, Ghana, where he contributed immensely to the standardization of Mist Nibima, an antimalarial mixture used in Ghana. He then served as a claims officer at ManyaKrobo District Mutual Health InsuranceScheme where he linked medicines to diagnosis through standard guidelines. Dr.Tettey also taught medical terminology in the College of Korean Medicine, Dongguk University, where he simultaneously worked extensively on several projects; evaluating the inhibitory effects of some Korean herbs on inflammation and hypertension. He also worked as a research scientist for the Korean Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM). During this period, he synthesized nanoparticles biologically and investigated their effect in killing cancer cells.
RESEARCH OUTPUT
Dr.Tettey has keen interest in cardiovascular diseases and cancer research. He studied the leaf of Taraxacumofficinale extensively and discovered its inhibitory effect on the proliferation of SGT oral cancer cells. He also evaluated the vasorelaxant effect of Smilax china leaf extract and investigated its mechanism of action in rat thoracic aorta. He has at least 10 Publications in peer reviewed journals.
