Dr. Felix Odame is an organic and computational chemist and a Lecturer at Department of Basic Sciences, School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho.
EDUCATION
He had his undergraduate education in Chemistry at Kwame University of Science and Technology, a master’s degree in chemistry at University of Ghana, specializing in Phytochemistry of piper guineeense. He holds a professional diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK).
He had his PhD from Nelson Mandela University, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, specializing in computational organic chemistry, catalysis and medicinal chemistry of anti-HIV and anticancer compounds.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Dr. Felix Odame completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa during which he worked on the development of anticancer agents based on the benzoxazepine moiety. He was also involved in the development of cerium and silver-based catalysts and their use in synthetic transformations. During his postdoctoral fellowship he taught and supervised both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
SCIENCE/ RESEARCH OUTPUT
Dr Odame’s main area of research is computational organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry of anti-HIV and anti-cancer agents. He has research experience across all the fields of chemistry and has been involved in several multidisciplinary research projects across the fields of biochemistry, chemistry, cosmetic science and formulation science. His current research efforts are in the areas of the study of organic reaction mechanisms using computational chemistry tools, synthesis and testing of bioactive compounds, development of catalysts, development of chemical and cosmetic formulations. He is a member of the South African Chemical Institute.
