About School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences
The School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences (SBBS) was established in the 2011/2012 academic year as one of the foundation schools of the University of Health and Allied Sciences. It is a pre-eminent research and practically oriented health educational School dedicated to providing biomedical solutions to health challenges in Ghana and beyond. The School runs foundation courses in basic, biomedical and social sciences as well as university-required courses for all students in preparation for clinical training in other programmes of the University.
The School offers educational opportunities to students and healthcare professionals, advances knowledge through scholarship and research and helps train health professionals needed to attend to the health care needs of people in Ghana and beyond.
The School has a special mission to promote interdisciplinary research and education in different areas that applies research findings to the benefit of society.
The mandate of the School includes:
- offer courses that provide a solid foundation in the basic, biomedical and social sciences to all students in the University of Health and Allied Sciences in preparation for clinical/professional training in various health disciplines.
- offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in specific, practical and relevant areas in the health delivery system to meet the needs of the country.
- promote scholarship through research and collaboration to generate and disseminate scientific data to inform/impact policy and practice for the improvement of health.
There are currently three (3) departments in the school:

3. Department of General Liberal Studies
