Admission Requirements for Postgraduate Programmes

Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Biomedical Sciences 

(Microbiology, Genetics and Evolutionary Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular and Immunological Sciences Tracks) 

Admission Requirements 

Applicants must possess: 

  • A good first degree (Second Class Lower Division or better) or equivalent in Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline from a recognized university. 

Relevant disciplines shall be determined by the Department and approved by the University Academic Board. 

All applications are evaluated by the Departmental Postgraduate Committee in consultation with the Postgraduate Office, Academic Board, and relevant regulatory bodies where necessary. 

Applicants are required to: 

  • Attend an admission interview and/or 

  • Pass an entrance examination as determined by the Department. 

Progression and Transfer to PhD 

Students must: 

  • Register each semester throughout the programme. 

  • Pass all prescribed examinations prior to graduation. 

Outstanding MPhil students may be permitted to transfer to the PhD programme upon satisfactory academic performance and approval by the relevant authorities.

Admission Requirements 

Applicants must: 

  1. Hold a Master’s degree or equivalent from a recognized institution and provide evidence of adequate academic preparation and research ability (including transcripts, publications, and relevant experience), or 

  2. Be outstanding MPhil candidates within the programme who qualify for transfer to the PhD track based on satisfactory performance and departmental recommendation. 

All applicants shall: 

  • Attend an interview and/or 

  • Take an entrance examination, as determined by the Department.
