Dr. David Adedia is a Senior Lecturer (Applied Statistics) and Data Scientist at the Department of Basic Sciences, School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences. He has been with the university since September 2015, and he teaches Biostatistics, Research methods and Quantitative literacy at the undergraduate level as well as Research methods and Biostatistics at the postgraduate level.
Education
He had his BSc degree in Actuarial Science, MPhil and PhD in Mathematical Statistics, from KNUST. Dr. Adedia had a certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from West African Built Environment Research (WABER). He also had a Certificate in “Introduction to Big Data”, from the University of California, San Diego, Coursera as well as a Certificate in "R Programming" from Johns Hopkins University, Coursera.
Work experience
Prior to joining UHAS, he worked as a Teaching Assistant (2011-2012) and Demonstrator (2012-2014) in the Department of Mathematics, KNUST. He was a member of the 2013/2014 KNUST-GRASAG Research Conference organizing committee. In UHAS, he was appointed an Assistant Lecturer from September 2015, Lecturer from December 2021 and Senior Lecturer from December 2022. He supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Science/Research output
Dr. Adedia’s area of research includes data science, machine learning, data visualization; statistical estimation; multivariate analysis; structural equation modelling; categorical data analysis; time series analysis; survival analysis; and disease modelling. He was a co-investigator on “Interplay between the gut microbiome, immunity, nutrition and metabolism in diabetic and obese persons”, which was supported by a Grant from African Partnership for Chronic Disease Research (APCDR). He has a number of Travel Grants and scholarship for local and international workshops. He has been a lead Biostatistician on a number of research studies and grants at UHAS. He has not less than 27 peer reviewed publications and 4 conference/workshop presentations.
Dr. Adedia reviews for a number of journals, including Pakistan Journal of Statistics and Operations Research, Journal of Public Health Research, Ghana Medical Journal, Journal of Advances in Mathematics and Computer Science, as well as some journals under heliyon.
