Admission Requirements for Undergraduate

Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology 

a) Local Applicants 

Applicants from Science or Agricultural Science backgrounds are eligible to apply. 

All applicants must have obtained credits (Grades A1–C6 in WASSCE or A–D in SSSCE) in the following core subjects: 

  • Mathematics 

  • English Language 

  • Integrated Science 

  • Social Studies 

In addition, applicants must have three (3) credits in the following elective subjects: 

 

For Science Students 

  • Chemistry 

  • Biology 

  • Physics or Elective Mathematics 

  •  

For Agricultural Science Students 

  • Chemistry 

  • Animal Husbandry or General Agriculture 

  • Physics or Elective Mathematics 

 

b) International Applicants and Ghanaians with External Qualifications 

Applicants holding international or external certificates may be considered for admission. Acceptable qualifications include: 

  • WASSCE/SSSCE 

  • International Baccalaureate (IB) 

  • GCE (Cambridge) ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels 

  • IGCSE (Cambridge) ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels 

  • American High School (Grades 12 and 13) 

  • Other recognized qualifications equivalent to WASSCE/SSSCE or GCE ‘A’ Levels 

All equivalences shall be determined by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). 

 

c) General Requirements for Other Qualifications 

Applicants with IGCSE or IB qualifications must have: 

  • At least Grades A*/A–C in English, Mathematics, and Biology at Standard Level (‘O’ Level/SL), and 

  • Three Higher Level (‘A’ Level/HL/IB2) passes (Grades A–C) in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or Mathematics. 

Applicants with GCE (Cambridge) or American High School qualifications shall be assessed according to University and national accreditation guidelines. 

 

d) Graduate Entry and Transfer Applicants 

Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Biological Sciences or related fields from a recognized university, or those seeking transfer from a similar programme, may be considered. 

Such applications are reviewed by a Special Admissions Committee appointed by the Dean. Academic transcripts and course content are evaluated to determine suitability and level of admission. 

Generally: 

  • Graduate applicants must have a minimum FGPA of 2.51 (Second Class Lower Division) or equivalent. 

  • Transfer applicants must have a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or equivalent. 

Each application is assessed on its individual merit and may be subject to additional conditions approved by the Admissions Board.
