Mr. Rupert k. Delimini is an assistant lecturer of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Department of Biomedical Sciences. His research interest focuses on virus-host interactions.
EDUCATION
He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana, and later pursued a Master of Philosophy Degree in Biochemistry at the University of Ghana.
WORK EXPERIENCE
He has 8 years of working experience with the Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) where he rose to the position of a Research Fellow. During his period at KHRC he coordinated various projects including: Test Based vs. Presumptive Treatment of Malaria (Source/s of Funding: Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation/ACT consortium), Ghana Randomized Air Pollution and Health Study (Source of Funding: Columbia University), Erythrocyte Invasion Mechanisms of Plasmodium falciparum (Source of Funding: Royal Society of the UK, Leverhulme scheme) and a Pilot Study: Severe Typhoid in Africa Surveillance (Source of Funding: International Vaccine Institute).
RESEARCH OUTPUT
Mr. Delimini’s research focuses on virus- host interactions with emphasis on RNA viruses. He is currently working on characterizing emerging strains of arboviruses and gastro-viral agents. He has additional interest in malaria epidemiology and understanding the molecular mechanisms in malaria pathogenesis at the blood stage. He is a member of the International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID) and Ghana Association of Biomedical Scientist. He has 8 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his scientific work at numerous conferences including ASTMH.
