Dr. Dickson Mawusi is a Senior Clinical Embryologist and an Lecturer of Embryology, Cell Biology, Human Genetics, Human Growth and Development, Developmental and Reproductive Biology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences, University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS), Ho, Ghana.
EDUCATION
Dr. Dickson Mawusi had his secondary education at St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast, and then Stellenbosch University, Republic of South Africa (RSA), where he received his bachelor’s degree in Reproductive Biology. He graduated with a postgraduate diploma (PGD) in Clinical Andrology, Faculty of Andrology and Sexual Medicine, Clinic of Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, Karolinska University, Huddinge, Stockholm, Sweden in 2011. He was accepted into the School of Medicine at the University of Leeds, Leeds LS2 9JT, West Yorkshire United Kingdom (UK), where he studied for his Master’s degree programme in Clinical Embryology under the supervision of Prof. Helen Picton, Dr. David Miller, Dr. John Huntriss and Dr. Jan Hogg which prepared him for both clinical work and research in an academic setting and graduated in 2012. During his PhD studies at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), he got involved in research at the Anatomy Department and the In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) Unit of Airport Women’s Hospital (AWH), Accra with Prof. Mrs. Chrissie Stansie Abaidoo (Head of Anatomy Department), KNUST, Kumasi and Prof. Frederick Kwaku Addai (former Head of Anatomy Department) of the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS), Accra – Ghana.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Dr. Dickson started his career and worked as a full time Clinical Embryologist and the Head of the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) department and Laboratory at the first IVF and Fertility hospital in Ghana at Provita Specialist Hospital (PSH) in Tema, the harbour city in Ghana founded by Dr. Joseph Mainoo of blessed memory. He has over twenty (20) years of clinical practice in Clinical Embryology, Research, Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) and Biomedical Sciences and have contributed to the research works of several local and foreign PhD, Postgraduate and medical students for their additional specialist qualification (fellowship) in reproductive medicine especially in the area of Embryology. He was a part - time Lecturer at the department of Human Biology of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) from 2012 to 213. He is currently a Consultant Clinical Embryologist, Researcher and a Lecturer in Human Embryology, Cell Biology, Human Genetics, Human Growth and Development, Developmental and Reproductive Biology at the University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS).
SCIENCE/ RESEARCH OUTPUT
Dr. Dickson Mawusi is interested in molecular embryology and currently focusing on the Association of Anti- Mullerian Hormone on the quality of oocytes in IVF clients in Ghana.
Besides molecular embryology, he is also interested in Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs), Molecular and Cell Biology and Reproductive Medicine.
