Professor Richard Harry Asmah is a Biochemist/ Molecular Biologist by training. He has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Dean of the School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences since August 2019.
Prof. Asmah has over 20 years’ experience in research, teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students both in Ghana and other countries. He worked first as a principal/chief research assistant at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and later as a lecturer/senior lecturer at the University of Ghana. For 15 years during his lectureship appointment, he served as Head of the Life Sciences Unit and later as Acting Head/ Head of Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences (SBAHS), University of Ghana.
He has over 80 published articles and more than 100 presentations to his credit both in Ghana and on the global platform.
Together with collaborators, Prof. Asmah has carried out 10 successful projects as a principal investigator or co-investigator. He is also the National Faculty for the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP) at the University of Ghana https://www.waccbip.org/.
He has also worked with the American Society of Cell Biology (ASCB) International Affairs committee in an international outreach for scientists and educators. A major effort in the mission was a series of African workshops in Tanzania, East Africa where he was a resource person (ASCB Newsletter June 2010) http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=288665825115 and in Ghana where he was a coordinator for the same course, which brought persons from across West Africa (ASCB Newsletter September, 2010). He has a wealth of experience in engagement with the public in his routine work as a researcher, academic and university administrator, and has an extensive research network.
